DEN HAAG - Handjevol betogers beklom dinsdag de hekken van de Iraanse ambassade, met als gevolg een diplomatiek incident. De Iraanse ambassade verwacht dat Den Haag de betogers ('saboteurs') voor de rechter sleept. Dat blijkt uit de donderdag gegeven persverklaring: "A handful of saboteurs climbed up the railings into the courtyard of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in The Hague on 6 April 2010. In the meantime, some of them had rallied outside the Embassy. However, at long last, The Hague police intervened arresting them and leading them outside the Embassy compound.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in The Hague is closely following the case through the authorities concerned including the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Municipality and the local police.
The Hague mayor held a meeting attended by the officials of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Police commanders as well as the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to The Hague, at the Municipality of The Hague on 7 April 2010. The Hague mayor, the officials of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs including the Deputy Secretary General and the police authorities expressed their regret about what had happened and offered their apologies for the incident promising that they will live up to their legal obligations in this regard and have the violence mongers prosecuted at the court.
As per international law, the host country is obligated to provide security to all diplomatic missions and that the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran expects the Dutch Government to act within its international framework of commitments. Furthermore, while adopting the requisite measures to this effect, it should also swiftly file a report on the initiatives it takes in this connection. "
